Eyelid Surgery – Blepharoplasty – of Upper and Lower Eyelids
The blepharoplasty technique for both the upper and the lower eyelids has become more advanced over recent years, yielding improved results. To remove skin is now only part of the procedures.
From an early stage, Doctor Wieslander has participated in the introduction of new techniques, and even today there are only a few plastic surgeons who master all of them.
- We always reconstruct the supra-tarsal fold (globe-line) when this is missing, often in elderly people, or when it has been eradicated due to excess of skin. Many Orientals, who never did have this structure, ask us to construct it.
- Tear trough, the dark shadows above and below fat pads in the lower eyelids, are eliminated by a special technique developed by Doctor Wieslander. The fat pad is mobilized and transferred into the space between the bone and the eyelid. The transition between the cheek and eyelid then becomes smooth. See examples in our Photo Gallery.
- The eyelid shape is stabilized and sometimes made to look “Chinese,” but only if the patient so wishes. This technique is called cantoplasty or cantopexy. This has almost eliminated the risk of pulling down the lower eyelid margin and avoids scleral show and ectropion. This technique can also be used to correct such already existing problems.
We can also correct small wrinkles and folds and often diminish dark pigmentation in the lower eyelids. This can be corrected using the technique called fractionated laser.
Excess skin, fat pads, wrinkles and folds in the upper and lower eyelids make you look tired, sad or even angry. You portray an incorrect picture of yourself. If you correct your eyelids, you will once again look like an open-minded, harmonious good-looking individual filled with energy, both in your own mirror and in the eyes of others. You become what you see! The eyes are the mirror of the soul!
Blepharoplasties and eyelid surgery are performed at the Institute of Plastic Surgery, Western Harbour, Malmö, Sweden.
